HEADLINE NEWS: DR BARD IS CALLED AS MEDICAL EXPERT IN 'SPOTLIGHT ON AMERICA" FEATURE ON DENSE BREAST RESEARCH REPORT

10/14/2022 - Millions of women have this breast cancer risk factor... why aren't they being informed? NEW YORK (TND) — This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Spotlight on America is pressing to ensure women have access to a crucial health fact that could save their lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40% of women have dense breast tissue, which is a risk factor for cancer. Our team first highlighted this issue in October 2021, and more than a year later, we expose how some women are still being left in the dark about their density, and federal health bodies are failing to make sure they’re informed. Suzanne McDonald was 48 years old when she got a routine mammogram in 2007. Like so many women, she received a letter telling her the X-ray was clear, and she breathed a sigh of relief. McDonald threw her letter in the garbage, trusting that it told her all she needed to know. She’d later find out that the mammogram had missed what was happening in her body: late-stage 3C cancer, which had been concealed by extremely dense breast tissue, which McDonald had never heard of. Special Annc:
A YEAR OF RECOGNITION FOR A LEGACY OF ACADEMIC VISION, MEDICAL INNOVATION AND ADVOCACY IN CANCER DIAGNOSTICS 6/25/2022- Having received several lifetime achievement awards in one year is indicative of the vast achievements of Dr. Robert Bard. He is celebrated in major circles for his countless clinical findings and his unending drive to advance the medical and academic communities to support integrative health sciences and the non-invasive movement. Starting with his credentials as a cancer imaging specialist, Dr. Bard is also heavily committed to a bevy of critical roles in the future of patient care including: validation research, education in non-invasive modalities for the medical community, technical advisor to countless health organizations and a nationally recognized advocate for firefighters' safety against environmental toxic exposures. Dr. Bard attributes his career in radiology to the US Air Force, having served in military hospitals in Thailand and Laos in the early ‘70’s. There, he witnessed the critical demands for immediate response and real-time diagnostic technology where time and accuracy are of the ultimate essence. This started him on a multi-track life plan to help advance diagnostic technologies to endure 'battle hardened' challenges of a military hospital setting all the way to our emergency responders and the ICU of today. (Click to access feature story)

FULL-BODY IMAGING MOVEMENT: THE STRATEGIC UPGRADE OF THE MRI- Written by Robert L. Bard, MD & Lennard M. Gettz, Ed.D

Since the advent of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on human patients (late 1970’s), this innovation offered a multi-layered and noninvasive approach to imagining of bodily organs, functions and the ability to diagnose disease. The MRI design applies the use of a radio frequency and a large magnet to generate visual reports of structures inside the body to monitor a major set of conditions. The classic design of the MRI is recognized as one of the few non-invasive modalities that allow in vivo evaluation of the brain without radiation. For this, the development of the MRI was widely applied in adult imaging studies of abnormal cognition and behavior. Its popularity is due to its ability to quantify neurobiological features throughout the brain including brain structure, the measure of neurotransmitters and the detection of hemodynamics (blood flow measurement). - (See interactive online issue | See PDF of this article)

DIGITAL IMAGING FOR PELVIC FLOOR DISORDERS
By: Roberta Kline, MD And Robert L. Bard, MD, DABR, FASL
The use of digital imaging in the diagnosis and management of pelvic floor disorders in women. 9/15/2022- Pelvic floor disorders arise from injury to and/or dysfunction of the muscles or connective tissues that result in a variety of conditions, with the most common being pelvic organ prolapse and urinary and fecal incontinence. Women with significant pelvic floor dysfunction have a lower quality of life, and also are more likely to have their sexual function impacted. Not included under this umbrella term are other issues of the pelvic floor related to non-relaxation, so in reality the numbers given previously are even higher. Underlying causes include genetic predispositions and inherited diseases of connective tissue, vaginal birth, surgical procedures, sexual trauma, obesity, chronic constipation and other lifestyle factors. CANCER DIAGNOSTIC EXPERT, ITN EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER ROBERT BARD, MD, RECEIVES THE PRESTIGIOUS ELLIS ISLAND MEDAL OF HONOR
May 19, 2022 — Robert L. Bard, M.D., an ITN editorial advisory board member, received one of the highest achievements of his career; the prestigious 35th Annual Ellis Island Medals of Honor. Alongside a list of over 80 top American achievers, this historical ceremony which took place at the Ellis Island Great Hall celebrated inspiring Americans who are selflessly worked for the betterment of our country and its citizens. In the spring of 2020, the Ellis Island Honor Society officially recognized Dr. Bard for his life’s work in clinical and research contributions in diagnostic imaging detection of cancers. The annual tradition of this nation’s most prestigious awards to honor American achievers has been upheld since 1986- but experienced its first postponement due to the devastating impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Both the 2020 and 2021 events had been postponed to this year, where significant new support and an impressive lineup re-ignited the continuance of event. (see complete article)

2021 REVIEW: TRANSCRANIAL DOPPLER ULTRASOUND IMAGING
The ultrasound design using sound waves and echo reflection became widely accepted for being the safe (non-radiation), inexpensive, repeatable and non-invasive alternative in medical imaging. Early clinical upgrades included the development of the pulse Doppler paradigm (1966) to enable scanning layers of the heart via blood flow. From pediatric scanning to its expansion of the 3D Doppler Ultrasound to the noteworthy advantages of TCD (Transcranial Doppler), innovations continue to place the ultrasound in more areas of research and patient care. USE OF ULTRASOUND IN A 2021 RESEARCH STUDY OF BREAST DENSITY
In an ongoing clinical study co-investigated by Dr. Robert Bard (NYC) and Dr. Noelle Cutter (of Molloy College, Long Island, NY), data is collected from a cohort of women undergoing ultrasound density scans. Inspired by Dr. Cappello’s early surveys of specific demographic groups, this 2021 research explores dense breast predominance in the younger population or those with lower body mass index (including dancers and athletes), both are likely candidates to receive false negative readings on a mammogram. -Download Dr. Bard's feature segment | see ITN full issue

Dr. Bard's latest article on "Recognizing Covid-19 on 3D Ultrasound of the Pleural Lining" is featured on pgs 18-21 of RADIOLOGY TODAY. " Imaging of the lung is functionally divided into outpatient, noncritical patients and acutely ill patients- or those suspected of infectious disorders. Contagious conditions such as Covid-19 require equipment that is easily sanitized or disposable. Handheld units and disposable gel packets are preferred in potentially contaminated circumstances".
